Barefooted foothill boy
Wild cherry spotted foot
Boy paw tracks along the deer trails
Twisting between the vines
Fading with the trees
Wineberry stained fingertips
And thorn tatted shins
A barefooted foothill boy
Breathing like a wolf
On a track from where I came
Dirty pawed in the garden
Wet feet in the creek
Crawling for the crawfish
And fishing the minnows to death
Wooden branch sword in hand
Littering leafs behind me as I dashed
From acorn to oak
The memories of my naked footprints
Left behind me
As I passed
Barefoot Boy
