Back to Basics

I’ve been living like a ghost,

And it’s time to come back to life.

To relearn the basics.

Like the right way to breath,

Deeply and fully,

Rhythmic and poised.

Or the right way to hear,

With ears that listen,

To sounds that are more than just funny vibrations in the air.

Raindrops pattering cascading through leaves.

Or the right way to see.

With a soul behind the eyes that looks

At something other than the ground,

To look up at things in the sky bigger than itself.

Or the right way to walk.

Upright and tall,

Rhythmic and poised.

Or the right way to live,

With a tired weary heart that beats,

To a rhythm out of time that changes,

Skipped beats and pauses.

I’ve been living like a ghost,

And it’s time to get back to basics.

  3. I love this! I feel like I need to do this too. And then sometimes I do, and then as soon as I feel great again, I somehow turn and go back to living like a ghost. Which is a really loud and busy (in my head) and unpleasant feeling! Anyway, I love the free flow style and rhythm of this poem.
